What were the New and Resale Property Transactions in Spain by Autonomous Community in 2019?

As briefly mentioned in the previous article on the distribution of the Total Real Estate Property Transactions in Spain by Autonomous Community (link included below), from the 568.180 Real Estate Property Transactions carried out during 2019 in Spain, 90,1% corresponded to Resale Property (511.961 transactions), and the remaining 9,9% corresponded to New Property Transactions (56.219). Now we will proceed to breakdown how New and Resale Property Transactions are distributed among the Autonomous Communities in Spain, thereby identifying the weight that each represent. The study is made based on the data provided by the Statistical bulletin (Boletín estadístico) of the Spanish government.

Total Number of New Property Real Estate Transactions in Spain 2019 by Autonomous Community

Of the 2019 Total Number of New Property Real Estate Transactions in Spain (56.219), the Autonomous Community that represented the largest amount of New Property Real Estate Transactions was Madrid, accounting for 18,88% (10.612) of the Total Number of New Property Transactions in Spain, followed by Andalusia that accounted for 18,82% (10.580), the Communitat Valenciana representing 14,03% (7.887), and in fourth position is Cataluña with 12,28% (6.906).

In fifth position is País Vasco accounting for 6,71% (3.773) of the Total Number of New Property Transactions, followed by Castilla la Mancha representing 3,92% (2.202), Castilla y León 3,58% (2.010), Aragon 3,4% (1.910), Galicia 3,38% (1.902), Canarias 3,1% (1.745), Murcia 2,8% (1.572), Illes Balears 2,34% (1.316), Navarra 2,22% (1.250), Cantabria 1,45% (814), Asturias 1,4% (788), Extremadura 0,84% (473), La Rioja 0,54% (304), and Ceuta & Melilla 0,31% (175).

Total Number of Resale Real Estate Property Transactions in Spain 2019 by Autonomous Community

In 2019 from the Total Number of Resale Real Estate Property Transactions carried out in Spain (511.961), the Autonomous Community of Andalusia accounted for most of the Resale Property Transactions, representing 19,22% (98.397), followed by Cataluña representing 16,04% (82.137), Communitat Valenciana 14,94% (76.469), and Madrid 13,24% (67.763).

In fifth position is Castilla y León representing 4,65% (23.793), followed by Canarias 4,45% (22.793), Castilla la Mancha 4,23% (21.666), País vasco 3,88% (19.864), Galicia 3,62% (18.539), Murcia 3,42 % (17.501), Illes Balears 2,8% (14.327), Aragón 2,63% (13.441), Asturias 1,82% (9.338), Extremadura 1,8% (9.210), Cantabria 1,25% (6.424), Navarra 1,03% (5.269), La Rioja 0,78% (3.984), and Ceuta & Melilla 0,2% (1.046).

 

Within each Autonomous Community what is the proportion of New and Resale Real Estate Property Transactions from the Total Transactions?

Lastly in order to gather everything together, in the following table we find outlined by each individual Autonomous Community, the percentage that New and Resale Real Estate Property Transactions represents of the Total Real Estate Property Transactions that were carried out within each independent Autonomous Community.

We can clearly identify within each Autonomous Community, the weight that each of these types of transactions represents, Resale Transactions taking the largest proportion in all of the Autonomous Communities (80,8% – 95,1%).

Analyzing each Autonomous Community individually, we can also highlight that in 2019, Navarra, País Vasco, Ceuta and Melilla, Madrid, and Aragón as a proportion of the Total Number of Real Estate Transactions that were carried out within the respective Autonomous Community, a higher percentage of New Property Transactions took place (Navarra 19,2%, País Vasco 16%, Ceuta and Melilla 14,3%, Madrid 13,5%, Aragón 12,4%) than the proportion in the rest of the Autonomous Communities.
